The Greater Seattle Dental Hygienists' Society represents dental hygienists in the Greater Seattle area. The mission of the Greater Seattle Dental Hygienists' Society is to increase awareness of and access to quality oral health care, to promote the highest standards of research and education, licensure and practice for dental hygienists, and to represent and promote the interests of the dental hygiene profession, as a means to improve the public's health.

Hello everyone!

Greater Seattle and Snohomish County components would like to invite you to our Annual Student Dinner on Tuesday, February 19th, 2019 when we will be welcoming graduating dental hygiene students from Shoreline Community College, Seattle Central College and PIMA into our profession. This year's dinner and meeting will again be at the PUB at Shoreline Community College 16101 Greenwood Avenue North. There is plenty of close by on campus parking.

Here's the agenda:

  • 5:30 Meet and Greet - Please be sure to visit our vendors and event sponsors
  • 6:00 Dinner - Baked Potato Bar, beverages and dessert
  • 6:30 WDHA President, Jennifer Zbaraschuk, will discuss Association membership and current legislative issues
  • 6:50 Kellie Whitcomb, RDH, BSDH, will present "The Independent RDH," a presentation on independent dental hygiene practice. Kellie has over 20 years invested in the dental profession with the last ten years as a dental hygienist. She has worked in many different practice settings including general, periodontal, oral medicine and research. She is currently an educator in the dental hygiene program at Lake Washington Tech. In addition to teaching, she is a clinician in a school-based oral health program and is a direct provider of dental hygiene services to seniors in long term care settings.

Thanks to HOD delegates

A big thank you to GSC Delegates that represented us at HOD in Bremerton Oct 13-14th.

Danielle Mora, Andrea Higgins, Kaitlin Clancy, Clydene Evans-Wenzel, Patty Doyle, Roberta Byrd-Wright and Sarah Bonck. We had several student delegates and alternates join us also: Shoreline College: Karina Daily and Lauren Huddle. Seattle Central College: Sayphonh Sloan and Jyoti Minhas. Update on Continuing Education Credits

Washington State dental hygienists are required to have proof of 15 hours of CE per year for re-license. The courses must relate to dental hygiene. No specifications are made that limit on-line courses.

The clinical dental team must also have BLS for health care providers certification by the American Heart Association.

If you are audited, you need at minimum two years of proof of continuing education.

CE benefit for members

The greater Seattle Dental Hygienists' Society provides, as a member benefit, several free continuing education credits every year. CE courses are offered in conjunction with general meetings, volunteer events, and as a week-end CE course.
